October 24rd, 2022...

Greetings friends and fiends,

It is hard to believe we are a week away from Halloween.  Recently there was another "dust up" in the online parenting realm about moving Halloween to the last Saturday of October.  Clearly these folks don't understand the significance of Halloween being on the 31st of October. As a parent I understand the work that goes into the school Halloween festivities, getting the kids home from school, fed - a little detour to carve some pumpkins - and off to trick-or-treating, BUT that's how we are supposed to do it.  There's something magical about wandering the streets on a weekday knowing you are going to be able to stay up late, eat candy and go to school the next day a little burnt out.  I don't know, I did it as a kid.  My kids have been doing it. I think parents have gotten lazy - lost touch with WHY things happen when they do.  They just say "it's not convenient" and therefore it must be changed.  Christmas is a perfect example.  It's always on the 25th of December.  What about Valentine's Day? St. Patrick's Day? Or how about Cinco de Mayo? Yeah, let's change Cinco de Mayo to the Saturday night before May 5th.

Dumb.

Don't mess with my Holiday.

Thanks,

Mark Harvey
