Music historians typically divide the history of ska into three periods: the original Jamaican scene of the 1960s (First Wave), the English 2 Tone ska revival of the late 1970s (Second Wave) and the third wave ska movement, which started in the 1980s (Third Wave) and rose to popularity in the US in the 1990s."
The English 2-Tone ska revival was instrumental in my life. I identified so closely with the scene and spent years as a Mod (or Rude Boy...or whatever I was). The movie "Dance Craze" was our window into a world across the ocean of the bands we loved.
Tomorrow night I get to see one of my favorite bands of all time, The Specials. Even though the band isn't complete without Jerry Dammers I feel a sense of completeness getting a chance to see this band. The bonus is that I get to see them with my good friend, Scotty and a bunch of other folks like me who had their youth influenced by the 2-tone movement.
Good evening friends...
