DC Cemetery

Holy heck! We're ten days out now! And with ten days to go I am veering off from music to talk a little bit about my friend, Brent Ross, who runs the DC Cemetery in Mountain View, CA. In "his" words..."The DC Cemetery is a "home haunt" that resides in the heart of the Old Mountain View neighborhood that is designed with the residents of Mountain View and its surrounding communities in mind. Over the years we've concocted a haunt that is fun and bone chilling for all age groups. We also like to think that our efforts aid in the progression of Halloween, and hopefully our actions will spread onto others, so they too can provide a safe element for all kids (and adults) to enjoy.
The DC Cemetery has recently become one of the most elaborate and complex haunted house displays in America, gaining consistent media attention and in 2007 nationwide exposure. The haunt is so elaborate that they were the winners of FEARnet.com’s 2007 Scariest Home Haunted House contest, flown to New York City, and presented with a $50,000.00 check live on NBC’s Today Show."

I've linked to some YouTube videos here at Mark Harvey World for you to check out the place and if you're anywhere near Mountain View on Halloween you really owe it to yourself to check his place out. Brent is a genius and a master at his craft as well as a really good guy. Click here for more information.

Check it out!

I recorded the voice of the Reaper guy as well as some other tracks for Brent.

Halloween Drinkin'

For those who know me I'm always up for a good drink and nothing is better than a Halloween themed drink!
Check out the excellent Halloween drink recipes on this site. As we all know, "Halloween started with the Ancient Celts. All Hallows Eve (which became the word Halloween) was the last day of their year. They believed November 1st (All Saints Day) was the start of the New Year and because it was Winter, it was the darkest time of the year. On this one night, October 31st, they believed spirits, ghosts, goblins and fairies came down from the hills into the towns. Some people believed if you left "treats" on the front porch for the spirits and ghosts, this would make them happy and they would not hurt you." Now, check out these recipes for some Halloween "Spirits" and enjoy yourself this Halloween.

Have fun and drink responsibly!

Adults Stepping Up Halloween Celebrations And Spending

Good news folks (for our beloved holiday).... this news just in...

Halloween, it seems, is returning to its fifth century Celtic roots.

Back then it was adults, not children, who dressed in costumes to ward off the spirits bent on snatching their souls. Now, in the past few years, adults have increasingly begun reclaiming Halloween from the kids. That's turned out to be exceptionally good news for retailers. Even though the stock market lately is lot more scary than frolicking grown-ups dressed as witches or devils, people plan to spend more money than ever this year on Halloween, according to a survey by the National Retail Federation.

Consumers are expected to spend $6 billion on the holiday this year, an all-time high — $67 a person, on average, up from $65 last year.

And more adults than ever say they plan to celebrate — 65 percent, compared with 59 percent a year ago, the survey showed.

What gives? For months, consumers have been spooked by the economic downturn and have been cutting back on all types of spending. Retailers are bracing for dismal Christmas and holiday sales, projected to be the weakest since 1991.

But analysts are predicting a happy, prosperous Halloween.

"Halloween is fun. It's a 'throw away all your cares and be a kid again type of holiday.' People really need that, what with the stock market and Wall Street," said Pam Goodfellow, senior analyst at BIGresearch, a Worthington, Ohio-based consumer research firm.

So if you can't afford to cruise the high seas this year, you can at least dress like a pirate.
