Halloween City

Greetings,

Every year I make it a point to visit almost every place that is selling Halloween goods.  You never know what you might find.  As the years have passed I've found it more and more difficult to find things that work for my Halloween scene (meant in both senses).  I visited Halloween City (here) the other day and here's what I found...

I like the Rob Zombie mask, but I already own one.  I purchased mine many years ago from Rob's website and honestly, I think it is cooler.  I remember the day I got it.  My oldest daughter was probably somewhere around 3.  I brought the box into my studio in hopes to quietly unbox it, try it on and then put it away.  I got the mask out and on and headed to the mirror to see how it looked.  Just then she rounded the corner and froze.  I don't know that I've ever seen her more frightened (before or since).  She was paralyzed and I felt SO badly.  The mask has been in a box for nearly 10 years. Maybe it is safe to bring out again.
This guy was kind of cool, but not painted as well as I would like.  I don't think he'd fit into my Halloween scene.

Many of the items on Halloween City's website cannot be found or seen at their stores which is a bummer since I like to look at props before I buy them.

I like this pumpkin (last year as well), but didn't pick it up (last year or this year).  It fits into my Halloween scene so who knows...maybe this year I'll pick this one up.

Halloween City is very costume heavy, not a lot of props and I found that this year they had less props and decorations than in years past.  Not sure what that means, but it was a bit of a disappointment.

I've found that to be true nearly everywhere.  As I said, I am VERY particular about what I bring home.

It would be interesting (and fun) to be a part of a Halloween focus group directing stores in their Halloween purchases.  After all these years I feel like I have a good eye for quality and what would work for a variety of haunt types.

Well...that's enough for tonight.

Happy haunting,

Mark Harvey
